Butterfly Tree!
We went for a walk along the banks of the Whanganui River near our home on Sunday 15th July 207, and were surprised to see dozens of Monarch butterflies congregating on just a few selected trees. It had been a particularly harsh frost the night before, which made it even more surprising, but perhaps they were behaving the way they were, to warm themselves on the sunny side of the trees, sheltered from the cold southerly breeze that was blowing. It was a special kind of thing to see so many at once!
